The Ron Paul Spirit

If you have not heard of Ron Paul than you have missed the most import political development in the last 25 years. The fact that a relative unknown and frequently derided republican congressman from Texas could garner such tremendous support from constituents throughout the country speaks to his message.
What is his message and why would somebody who defies the establishment become so popular amongst both young and old, democrat and republican?
His message is simple: Freedom!
For over 30 years, Ron Paul has been proclaiming freedom for the individual both economically and socially. This is what has set him apart from a lot of other 'fiscal' conservatives. In addition, as a student of Austrian Economics, Ron Paul came to understand and proclaim the importance of gold-backed currency, free markets, constitutionalism, limited government intervention both foreign and domestic, the central bank as the cause of the business cycle, individual freedom and liberty, and self-defense.
After thirty years, why would his message suddenly gain traction now?
The simple reason is that an era of false credit and housing inflation sponsored by the federal reserve and major bankers has driven the economy into the ground. This fiscal irresponsibility has shone light on the errors of central banking and foreign interventionism. In addition, because the bankers wield some much power in halls of government they have demanded and received virtually endless bailouts. This has served to anger the public and cause some to explore the root causes of the present disaster. And this is where Ron Paul has filled a void. His correct economic understanding of the central bank as the culprit has taken root among a growing movement of people. And the encroachment of government on our personal liberties has engendered even more support for his ideas of personal liberty.
So where will this lead? Will the ideas and passion of Ron Paul go by the wayside?
There are signs that some people are coming to understand what is going on. Unfortunately, this group of people remains the minority. Many people are still holding to the idea that a savior-like President Obama will come to save them. It saddens me to think that it may be only after the depression takes a deeper hold on the United States that people will realize the falicy of their ways and Ron Paul's ideas will speak to a broader populace.
This is where you and I come in. First, it is up to us to become informed ourselves about correct principles of freedom, liberty, and economics. Then it is imperative that those of us that are informed speak to others and empower them to seek the truth themselves. Only when a group of passionate defenders of liberty come forth, brave enough to fend the attacks of the establishment, will we be able to end the tyranny of the central bank and the federal government. Studies have shown that the American revolution only involved 5 % of the population. It was because these 5 % were willing to put their lives on the line that they were successful. We must develop the same love of liberty so that our wives, children, and future generations will be free to worship and live as they see fit.
Fortunately, there has been a few late developments that have been comforting. Recently, a group of states have passed resolutions that have affirmed their independence from the federal government. These resolutions include provisions to reject federal gun laws, social/welfare programs, and further intrusions on states rights. It is likely that the only way we are to remain free is to become involved on a state and local level to promote more resolutions affirming our independence.
In conclusion, let us not let Ron Paul do it all himself. Let us all rally together and become a people united under the banner of liberty and freedom.
